Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This role serves as a Surgery Scheduler for patients throughout the surgical process at the Department of Ophthalmology's Pediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus clinic in Westwood. You will support the delivery of patient care by coordinating surgeries for multiple physicians within this multi-specialty clinic. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and schedule patient surgical and laser procedures for assigned faculty physicians
  • Schedule required pre-operative testing and appointments
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary prior authorizations
  • Serve as a patient liaison, guiding patients through the pre- and post-operative process
  • Communicate with physicians, clinical staff, and external facilities to ensure timely and accurate scheduling
  • Maintain accurate documentation and patient records within the electronic medical record system
  • Provide general clinic and administrative support as needed to ensure smooth daily operations

Salary Range: $30.36-43.49 Hourly

Required:

  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain and productive working relationships with Faculty, Staff, Administration and patients from various social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to creatively integrate competing demands into a productive working environment.
  • Skill in verbal communications to clearly convey complex problems in both formal and informal situations.
  • Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with a patient population in varying degrees of health

Highly Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the ophthalmic field.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of authorization process, surgery coordination, and managed care programs.
  • Working knowledge of patient related policies and procedures as well as a thorough understanding of the University system and it services and programs.
  • Knowledge of UCLA Health computer system, including EMRs.
