The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (âSystemâ). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. Itâs composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 430,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date. Â

Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as the lead worker of the Retirement Finals Processing Team. As a lead worker, this position is responsible for working closely with the unit supervisor in the daily processing of work and providing technical direction to staff in the finalization of retirement requests and creating lifetime payment records. This position must maintain knowledge of internal policies and procedures, federal and state pension laws, regulations, and the ability to properly process work. Based on reviews of retirement payrolls and salary data, this position also makes recommendations to management for solutions regarding complex retirement payroll situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Â Â Â Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.Â
Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor''s degree from a college or university for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Â

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorâs license valid in the State of Maryland.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).
