SchlEducatorI State of North CarolinaSchlEducatorIWilson, NCVariety and Purpose of Personal Contacts: Daily contact with parents (when necessary) concerning scheduled meetings, concerns, behavioral issues, and needs of children Daily contact with other teachers/assistants concerning student records and/or data Contact with guests of the school and government officials (when necessary) Effective sign language skills, receptive and expressive, in order to communicate with deaf students, employees, parents, and visitors Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and tactfully with all people Physical Effort: Employee must have dexterity skills to use sign language Employee must have mobility and endurance to keep up with students and their movements around campus Employee must have mobility and the endurance to get down on and up off the floor with children if applicable and necessary Must have mobility and the ability to assist children with hygiene needs if applicable and necessary Depending on the individual needs of assigned students Work Environment and Conditions: Academic classrooms and residential classrooms Cafeteria and other areas on campus not designated as classrooms Residential areas not designated as classrooms Community buildings and areas Machines, Tools, Instruments, Equipment, and Materials Used: Copy Machine Computer (Including any and all peripherals) Any or all assistive devices for specific needs of disabilities Instructional media and equipment Visual Attention, Mental Concentration, and Manipulative Skills: Employee must have vision (with or without correction) within the normal functioning range for the purpose of reading and understanding sign language and for the purpose of supervising children. The following list is a known list of duties it is not meant to be comprehensive: Daily contact with supervisor concerning duties to be performed Contact office concerning daily bus duty or Friday bus duty Daily student contact (giving out passes, getting students to appointments, getting information from students, etc.) Disseminating information on daily/weekly/monthly reports Completion of confidential information to other agencies, determining (with guidance when uncertain) what may and may not be released Receiving, compiling, filing and disseminating information from other on and off campus service providers pertaining to middle school students Assisting the supervisor in verifying and updating the campus inventory as it pertains to the middle school Accuracy Required in Work: Accuracy is required in following areas - understanding, effectively communicating and implementing the goals and objectives of the program and curriculum (state or alternate); ensuring IEP goals/objectives are implemented and documented appropriately.
