Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced medical surgical observation unit. The role demands strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure while managing a high turnover of patients.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical (Med Surg)
• Unit: 2C Observation Unit
• Number of Beds: 22
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 or 1:6 with charge nurse support
• Common Diagnoses: Various medical observation cases

Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Timing: 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotational coverage with permanent staff

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Monitor patient conditions and report changes to appropriate healthcare team members.
• Perform necessary clinical procedures including EKGs and lab draws.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver optimal patient care.
• Manage discharges and admissions, maintaining efficiency in patient flow.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year, including 1 travel assignment.
• Required Certifications: BLS Certification, NIHSS Certification; ACLS is highly recommended.
• Skills: Ability to work with Heparin drips; familiarity with telemetry monitoring; strong patient assessment skills.

Additional Information

This is a dynamic role that offers the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population. The unit is designed for medical observation and is characterized by a high volume of admissions and discharges, averaging up to 16 discharges per day. The RN will work in a fast-paced environment, requiring excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

All nursing staff are expected to adhere to dress code standards: Caribbean Blue top and bottom, or White top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all White attire.
