SHELF DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT MANAGER
HOURS: Minimum of 37.5 hours per week. May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, to meet operational needs.
PAY GRADE: 4($49,650.00)

JOB SUMMARY: This position manages the Gift Deposit Collection and maintains agency’s statistical data, policies, and procedures. Employee assists with the management of retrieving and shelving library materials to and from other agencies and oversees agency Pages.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
Associate’s Degree or the equivalent of two years coursework from an accredited college or university is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Two years library or equivalent experience.
- One year supervisory or lead worker experience in a union environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which
include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the Lead Worker in the absence of the Shelf Department Manager.
- Train clerical and Page staff; Direct and review the work of clerical and Page staff.
- Create and maintain daily and weekly Shelf Department work schedules.
- Coordinates CPL's books by mail (Words on Wheels) program.
- Prep staff time cards for input into Tyler Munis.
- Review and approve staff time cards for adherence to work schedules in the absence of the Manager.
- Assist with Page recruitment process and assessments.
- May maintain Page onboarding process.
- Carry out shift projects to reorganize library materials, including participating in the planning of the work.
- Process monthly book donations.
- Document standard operating procedures.
- May assist clerical staff in transmitting library service materials.
- Perform searches for items sought and not found through routine retrieval procedures.
- Oversee the preparation of materials being transported to other agencies.
- Maintain the order and retrievability of collections in remote storage.
- Maintain statistical data and metrics; Generate reports.
- May create narrative reports.
- May maintain and order routine supplies.
- Participate and manage Pages in recovery actions for collection-threatening emergencies.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and Board meetings as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
- Leading a mid-sized organization or business unit is required.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
- Experience modifying and adapting existing programs, services, policies and processes to meet
- changing needs and expectations is required.
- Working with community leaders, public officials, donors, and other community stakeholders is required.
- Experience managing budgets, resources and people is required. Governmental budgetary principles, practiceand procedures preferred.
- Experience working with boards of directors/trustees is preferred.
- Experience in public library, public-sector, and a union environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office or similar software is required. Relevant business management systems such as general ledger, HRIS, CRM, etc., is preferred.
- Proficiency in SirsiDynex, bibliographic software is preferred.
