Applications are being accepted for the position of Office Assistant with the City of South San Francisco. Currently, there are two vacancies -one with the Parks and Recreation Department and one with the Public Works Department. These are both non-benefited, part-time, hourly positions. Hourly Rate: $30.30-$36.82
Schedule: 20-30 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
THE DEPARTMENTS
PARKS AND RECREATION
The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a manager, supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Facilities divisions. The Recreation Division consists of eight program areas, including Aquatics, Classes, Cultural Arts, Preschool and Early Learning, Senior Services, Sports, Rentals, and Youth Enrichment Services, as well as Special Events. The Parks Division oversees all city-owned landscapes within parks, right-of-ways and open spaces as well as all city-owned trees. The Facilities Division is responsible for all municipal building maintenance within the city.
PUBLIC WORKS
The South San Francisco Public Works Department is comprised of three primary operational divisions: Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and the Water Quality Control Plant. Together, these divisions plan, maintain, and improve the City''s infrastructure and essential public services, helping to ensure safe transportation, reliable utilities, environmental stewardship, and a high quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Supporting these divisions is the Administration team, which provides department-wide leadership and administrative support in areas such as budgeting, purchasing and contracting, capital improvement program coordination, grants administration, public outreach, customer service, commission support, and special projects. By supporting all Public Works divisions, Administration helps ensure the department operates efficiently and continues delivering high-quality services to the community.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable using computer systems to accurately enter and maintain information. They can effectively prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and follow established procedures with minimal supervision. Success in this role requires reliability, good judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Training: One year of office support or general clerical experience with some experience dealing with the public.
