Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step Down position requiring a strong cardiac background and independent telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

  • High-acuity, cardiac-focused PCU unit setting
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 with high patient acuity and frequent admissions/discharges
  • AM shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 3x12-hour shifts per week (36 hrs/week)
  • No on-call requirements
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles
  • Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include cardiac catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, and ablations
  • EPIC EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required, in hand
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no tech assistance or remediation)
  • Required experience with cardiac drips including Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to high-acuity cardiac patients including significant procedural volume
  • Comfort with cardiac acuity, telemetry monitoring, and complex cardiac procedures required prior to accepting assignment
  • Radius rule of 50 miles applies; local candidates are not accepted
  • Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO requests are limited to a maximum of 5 days if not on or near a holiday, or 3 days if on or near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed per assignment
