Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a cardiac-focused Step Down/PCU position requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and a passing score on a dysrhythmia exam.

Details

  • Night shift (NOC) 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week for 36 hours weekly
  • High-acuity, cardiac-focused PCU/Step Down unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5
  • Frequent admissions/discharges with significant procedural volume
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to the Cardiac Monitor Tech role

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no tech assistance or remediation)
  • Required experience with cardiac drips including Insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Rating of 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist required
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity cardiac nursing care including telemetry monitoring, drip management, and post-procedural care
  • Support patients undergoing cardiac catheterizations, stent placements, valve replacements, pacemaker/ICD procedures, cardioversions, and ablations
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted, though radius rule may occasionally be waived)
  • Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO limited to a maximum of five days when not falling on or near a holiday, or three days if on/near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
