Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring OH or compact license and prior PCU/acute care experience

Details

• Medical Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with telemetry, caring for solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology patients
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• High acuity PCU population with a small amount of med surg patients
• Rare pediatric patients are cared for by permanent staff; pediatric experience not required
• 12-hour day/night rotating schedule, with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week period
• Variable weekend shifts based on unit needs
• PCU patient ratio of 1:3 and Med Surg Telemetry ratio of 1:4-5
• Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity level
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skilled in interpreting dysrhythmias, rapid response team utilization, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, and non-titrated cardiac drip management
• Skilled in PCA management, chest tube care (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration/monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

• Provide high acuity progressive care nursing with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is encouraged; travel experience preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system

• RTO must be submitted with contract request and limited to 7 days or less
