Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Oncology Tele position requiring 2 years of inpatient nursing experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Cancer hospital setting on a mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit caring for medical oncology patients
  • Unit consists of approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
  • High acuity patient population with a variety of diagnoses including solid tumors and some blood cancers
  • Rare pediatric patients may be present but are typically cared for by permanent staff
  • Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation equipment
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) and Night (19:00-7:30) shifts on a rotating D/N schedule based on department needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with changes based on staffing priorities
  • Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs
  • Weekend shifts are variable
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required, with oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Acute care experience must be current and within the specialty applied to, with consistent work in the last 12 months
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration, and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with accessing/managing ports, chemotherapy administration/monitoring, and CBI preferred
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care preferred
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and surgical drain management preferred
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; no coworker references accepted

  • Provide direct patient care on a med/surg oncology telemetry unit with a heavy focus on infection prevention and fall risk protocols
  • Chemotherapy competence is not required, and a 2-day chemo training course is available for interested candidates
  • Strong emphasis on cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete an expedited Ohio fingerprinting process immediately upon signing their contract
  • Candidates located outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location as soon as possible after booking
  • Candidates located at extreme distances will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible for a travel assignment at this location
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
