Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift Stepdown/PCU RN for a mixed-acuity surgical oncology unit requiring at least 1 year of PCU and 2 years of acute care experience.

Details

  • Surgical oncology stepdown/PCU unit caring for mixed acuity PCU and Med Surg patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Rotating 12-hour day/night contract option available with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Patient ratios typically 1:4, occasionally 1:5
  • Variable weekend scheduling based on unit needs, no set/blocked scheduling
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Cares for surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive patients
  • Manages chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, and insulin/heparin drips
  • Cardiac telemetry monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Floating required within scope of practice
  • Epic EMR required

Requirements

  • Active RN license, Ohio or compact, in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • 2 years of acute care nursing experience with at least 1 year of PCU experience
  • Acute care experience must be current and consistent within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management preferred
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
  • Tracheostomy care and management experience
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for complex surgical oncology cases including cancer-related emergencies and infection prevention protocols
  • Heavy focus on fall prevention and infection control practices
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees eligible to return as travelers after 6 months away from the facility
  • Current employees are not eligible for travel positions at this health system
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted with the contract and built in prior to start, limited to 7 days or less
  • Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed promptly after contract signing due to strict compliance timelines
