Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Medical Oncology unit with progressive care and telemetry beds, plus a small amount of med surg
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients on the unit, though pediatric experience is not required for agency RNs
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30), with possible day/night rotating schedule based on department needs
• Staffing ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Uses GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, including at least 1 year of PCU experience
• High acuity PCU patient experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references are not accepted

Additional Information

• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as possible after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
• Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
• RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as travelers
• Travel experience is not required and first-time travelers are welcome to apply
