Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Telemetry

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to join our team in the Medical/Surgical and Telemetry unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing patients with various diagnoses and will be proficient in the required skills and certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for patients with conditions such as dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures.
  • Perform nursing duties including IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis management.
  • Administer blood products and perform central line blood draws.
  • Manage peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and PICC line management.
  • Start IVs, administer Heparin, and manage PCA and chest tubes.
  • Utilize non-invasive airway management tools including CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow nasal cannula.
  • Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care, including wound vac management.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a nursing role.
  • Experience in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry settings.
  • Proficient in interpreting dysrhythmias and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Knowledge of telemetry – remote monitoring and on-unit monitoring.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

  • Experience with accessing ports and managing insulin protocols.
  • Knowledge of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) protocols, surgical drains, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
  • Experience with tracheostomy management.
  • Familiarity with Epic EMR system.

Job Details

  • Patient to nurse ratios target: 1:5-6
  • Shift: 12-hour days (36 or 48 hours accepted)
  • Contracts available for 13-20 weeks
  • Contract staff may be required to participate in Storm Team or Hurricane Team efforts during catastrophic events.
  • Floating among units may be required based on facility needs.
  • Weekend commitments of approximately 12-16 shifts per contract may be expected.

Additional Information

  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, and hospital orientation will occur in the first week.
  • The candidate must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
  • Scrubs attire: Navy and white.
