Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical team. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a Medical/Surgical setting.
  • Utilize telemetry for remote monitoring of patients.
  • Participate in rapid response situations and collaborate with the Rapid Response Team.
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and manage IV insulin protocols.
  • Deliver colostomy care and manage feeding tubes.
  • Oversee pre/post hemodialysis management and administer blood products.
  • Conduct central line blood draws and provide peripheral line care/management.
  • Perform phlebotomy and PICC line management.
  • Initiate IVs and manage heparin and PCA therapy.
  • Handle chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and other non-invasive airway management techniques.
  • Administer oral suctioning and oxygen therapy, using various tools such as face masks and portable oxygen tanks.
  • Adhere to isolation precautions and perform comprehensive wound care, including the use of wound vacs.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Medical/Surgical setting; first-time travelers are encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Proficient in medical/surgical nursing, telemetry, dysrhythmias management, IV therapy, and wound care.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BCLS) required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • Familiarity with EPIC system and interpretation of ABGs.
  • Management experience with CVA, surgical drains, and tracheostomy care.

Job Details

  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts; 36 or 48 hours per week accepted.
  • Contract Length: 13-26 weeks
  • Floating Requirement: Required
  • Weekend Requirement: 12-16 weekends per contract
  • RTO: Maximum of 7 days

Unit Information

This position includes work on a unit that manages a diverse patient population, including those with dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fractures. Candidates should be prepared to work effectively within an isolation area for COVID patients.

Orientation

  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Hospital Orientation: First week; availability required for daily classes.
  • Dress Code: Navy and white scrubs

Special Working Conditions

Contract staff may be assigned to work with Storm Teams or Hurricane Teams during catastrophic events and must report to work as required. There may be consolidation to a Centralized Office mid-contract, with preassignment to units as needed.
