Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Tele Float

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the MS/Tele Float unit, specializing in care for patients within an Emergency Department holding area. The unit accommodates patients who are waiting for inpatient beds and may include a variety of medical and surgical adult diagnoses.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Caring for patients with any medical/surgical adult diagnosis.
  • Managing PCU level patients as required.
  • Taking on MS/Tele cases and floating to the Emergency Department and MedSurg areas as needed.
  • Collaboration with Rapid Response Teams for critical patient situations.
  • Providing colostomy care, feeding tube management, and renal failure care.
  • Administering blood products and managing peripheral lines.
  • Performing phlebotomy and PICC line management.
  • Utilizing non-invasive airway management techniques and chest tube care.
  • Monitoring vital signs and interpreting dysrhythmias.

Job Details:

  • Patient Ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele, 1:4 for PCU level patients.
  • Night shifts available, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week.
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend required.
  • Maximum RTO (Request Time Off): 7 days.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
  • Traveler experience is required.
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS.
  • Strong skills in telemetry and management of dysrhythmias.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • NIHSS certification.
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and pre/post hemodialysis management.
  • Accessing ports and performing central line blood draws.
  • Experience with traumatic brain injury and orthopedic trauma.
  • Familiarity with wound care and wound vac management.

Special Procedures/Unit Details:

  • Unit specializes in inpatient holding within the Emergency Department.
  • Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors and IV pumps.

Other Information:

  • Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties.
  • Orientation duration: 12 hours.
  • Scrubs: Navy color required.
