Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a position in the Medical/Surgical and Telemetry unit. This role requires a skilled nursing professional dedicated to providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain patient care by utilizing skills in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
• Monitor patients remotely, implementing rapid response protocols as necessary.
• Perform duties such as interpreting dysrhythmias and executing IV insulin protocols.
• Provide colostomy and feeding tube care and management.
• Oversee pre/post hemodialysis management and blood product administration.
• Conduct central line blood draws and phlebotomy procedures.
• Manage and care for Peripheral and PICC lines, including starting IVs.
• Administer medications, including Heparin and PCA, as directed.
• Utilize non-invasive airway management techniques and provide wound care.
• Implement effective isolation precautions, especially within COVID patient care areas.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Medical/Surgical or Telemetry nursing role.
• Must have current BCLS certification.
• Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates.
• Required skills: management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, insulin management, and understanding of typical medical/surgical diagnoses.

Shifts and Scheduling

• 12-hour day shifts with a target patient ratio of 1:5-6.
• Contract lengths may vary from 13 to 26 weeks.
• Floating to other units as needed is required.
• Weekend shifts: expected 12-16 during the contract period.
• RTO limited to 7 days maximum; specific scheduling based on unit needs.
• Orientation includes 24 hours on the unit and hospital-wide training during the first week.

Patient Population

Patients may present with a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, and hip fractures.

Special Procedures

The unit includes areas for isolation of COVID patients and multi-level care including stepdown, managed by dedicated staff.

Equipment and Systems

Familiarity with Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication is advantageous for successful integration into the team.

Physical Requirements

Contract staff may be required to report to work during catastrophic events or disasters and will be assigned to storm or hurricane teams as needed.
