Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) with a specialization in Med/Surg for a night shift position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, demonstrating proficiency in patient care and management in diverse clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to patients, including those with complex medical conditions such as diabetes, renal failure, and respiratory issues.
  • Utilize telemetry systems to monitor patient vitals and interpret dysrhythmias.
  • Manage patient treatment plans that include blood product administration, central line blood draws, and IV therapy.
  • Assist in the pre and post-operative care for patients undergoing various surgical procedures.
  • Participate in Rapid Response and Code teams as necessary.
  • Administer medications, manage feeding tubes, and perform wound care as needed.
  • Provide care for patients requiring specialized interventions such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula therapy.
  • Maintain compliance with isolation precautions and PPE protocols.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately in the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Med/Surg or Telemetry setting.
  • Certifications: Current BLS and NIHSS certifications are required. Additional certifications such as ACLS are preferred.
  • Skills: Proficient in interpreting dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and management of various medical devices and interventions.
  • Charge Experience: Previous experience in a charge nurse role is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule and Requirements

  • Ratios: 1:6 nursing ratio.
  • Shifts: Night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, available in 36 or 48-hour formats.
  • Contract Length: Accepting contracts of 13 to 26 weeks.
  • Required Time Off: Maximum of 7 days.
  • Floating Requirement: Nursing staff may be required to float to other units as necessary.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.

Care may involve managing patients with a range of diagnoses, including but not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Dementia
  • COVID-19
  • Pneumonia
  • COPD
  • Sepsis
  • GI bleed
  • Anemia
  • Hip fractures
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)
  • Renal failure
  • Hypertension
  • Cellulitis
  • Failure to thrive

Orientation and Onboarding

  • Unit orientation will last for 24 hours.
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white attire is required.

All candidates must successfully complete EKG testing prior to commencement of employment.

Additional Information

Contract staff may be involved in a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may need to report to work during catastrophic events or disasters. Candidates must be willing to work holidays and other designated days as required.
