Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a cancer hospital oncology unit requiring 2+ years of current acute care experience and telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a cancer hospital caring for all solid tumor cancer patients across the treatment spectrum, including end-of-life care
• Adult and geriatric patient population with common diagnoses including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, plus chemotherapy administration encounters
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, with 1:5 possible
• Day (3x12, 7:00-19:30) and Night (3x12, 19:00-7:30) shifts available
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• No set/blocked scheduling offered
• Floating required to other Med Surg Oncology units
• EPIC charting system used

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience, current within the last 12 months and specific to the specialty applied for
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Telemetry interpretation and monitoring skills required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, accessing and managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience
• Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge
• Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted

• Provide direct care to oncology patients across all stages of their cancer journey, with heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Care for patients with true med surg issues in addition to oncology-specific needs
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; previous travel experience preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel assignments at any of its hospital locations
• RTO must be requested and built into the contract prior to submission, limited to 7 days or less
• Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon contract signing to maintain compliance
