Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology-Telemetry position requiring 2 years of current acute care experience and OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Med/Surg Oncology-Telemetry unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with all subtypes of solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer
  • Cares for patients throughout the cancer journey, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • Day shift (7:00-19:30) and Night shift (19:00-7:30), 3x12 hour shifts
  • Variable weekend scheduling based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg Oncology units
  • Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • 2 years of current acute care experience required in the specialty, with consistent work in the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, central line blood draw, blood product administration, telemetry interpretation and monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, isolation precautions/PPE, and respiratory care
  • Preferred skills include accessing/managing ports, chemotherapy administration, and tracheostomy care/management
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Provide med/surg nursing care alongside oncology-specific care needs
  • Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued
  • Previous travel experience preferred but not required, so first-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon signing contract
