Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Oncology position requiring 2 years of current acute care experience and telemetry skills.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele oncology unit caring for all solid tumor cancer types across the full care spectrum, from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
• Adult and geriatric patient population with common diagnoses including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, as well as antineoplastic chemotherapy encounters
• Target staffing ratio of 1:4, with occasional 1:5
• Day (3x12, 7:00-19:30) or Night (3x12, 19:00-7:30) shifts, with potential for a rotating D/N schedule reviewed every 4-week period
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units
• No set or blocked scheduling available
• Epic charting system used

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• 2 years of current acute care RN experience required, consistently worked within the last 12 months and in the specialty applying for
• Telemetry interpretation and monitoring skills required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, and central line blood draws
• Experience accessing and managing ports preferred
• Experience with blood product administration
• Experience administering chemotherapy preferred
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use
• Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
• Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor and the second acceptable from a Charge RN; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide med/surg and telemetry nursing care to oncology patients with a heavy focus on infection prevention and fall precautions
• Oncology experience preferred but not required; candidates should be willing to learn and grow their nursing practice
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though previous travel experience is preferred
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently after signing a contract, either by traveling to an in-state location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet if located far from Ohio
• Locals are accepted at the same pay rate
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
