Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical Oncology RN for a 16-week night shift assignment requiring med/surg experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit at a cancer hospital
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • Patient ratios goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling available
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
  • Cares for patients with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other hematologic and non-hematologic cancers
  • Performs chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
  • Manages insulin and heparin drips
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • ACLS and OCN certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the specialty being applied for, within the last 12 months
  • Med/Surg experience required
  • Hematology oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Epic charting experience required

  • Additional preferred skills include accessing/managing ports, care and management of ports, body fluid handling post-chemotherapy, isolation precautions/PPE, and care of patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference, but coworker references are not accepted

  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as travelers at this facility
  • Required time off (RTO) must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting as soon as they sign their contract; those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to a fingerprinting location, while those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
