Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes orthopedic/trauma cases, acute and chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and common med-surg co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, electrolyte imbalances)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, LPN ratio of 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour day or night shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A), scheduled on a 6-week cycle
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult Med-Surg/Telemetry units in the facility
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes central telemetry monitoring, glucose stat strips, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP/Hemovac drains, and PCA pumps

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam during compliance
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Medical-Surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core specialty experience within the last year required
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills required, including trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, central line management, and titration of cardiac drips (not BP)
  • Wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation skills required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • At least 1 professional reference required, dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including IV insertion, wound care, discharge planning, and patient education focused on renal and fluid management
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support
  • CNA support available for vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and patient transport
  • Dedicated PICC team available, though no formal IV team is in place
  • Resource/discharge nurses float to support all units as needed
  • Unit secretary support available 7a-11p, with house-wide call secretary coverage overnight
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • No radius rule applies for local candidates in GA facilities, with the same rate offered
