Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN - Med/Surg Tele for a float pool role at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg and Telemetry units
  • Level 1 Trauma Designation, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center accreditation
  • Each Med/Surg unit has 20-36 beds
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic disease, cardiac (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical (general, ortho, trauma) patients
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • 12-hour day shift schedule, 7A-7P, 36-40 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as needed
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Central telemetry monitoring unit with dedicated tech support
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS required; ACLS preferred (must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding if not certified)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Med/Surg certification a plus
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander use, and tele rhythm monitoring/interpretation
  • Experience with post-cath care, TR bands, and groin site management (excluding sheath pulls)
  • Experience titrating drips including insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine
  • Strong assessment, time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education skills
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • One professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a busy, team-oriented Med/Surg Tele environment
  • Coordinate care with an interdisciplinary team including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Not part of a dedicated IV team, though a PICC team is available for line placement
  • 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules, plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available around campus, with paid deck parking as an alternative
  • Required to work one shift for each major holiday, covering approximately 75% of holidays
  • Time-off requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius restriction for local candidates within GA facilities; local travelers receive the same rate
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year after working a permanent position there
