Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic disease, post-op surgical patients, and med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p, totaling 36 hours weekly with 40 standard hours
  • Weekend rotation of 6 shifts within a 6-week period
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the hospital
  • Central Telemetry Unit supports cardiac monitoring
  • 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage available
  • CNA, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource team, and PICC team support available on unit
  • EPIC EMR used for charting
  • Unit equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Phillips monitors, glucommander, PCA pumps, bladder scanners, and chest tube/JP drain management tools

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required; BCR (EKG competency) required as part of compliance
  • ACLS and Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
  • Skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, central line management, insulin and heparin drip titration, and IV insertion required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, wound care, post-op monitoring, discharge planning, and patient education
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams and resource/discharge nurses
  • 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs, Ceil Blue for LPNs
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking as an alternative
  • Must work one day of each major holiday, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
