Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Unit/Department Overview

This is a 32-bed unit that specializes in caring for patients undergoing colorectal and major abdominal surgeries, including colectomy, bowel resection, ostomy, hernia repair, as well as urological, orthopedic, and plastic surgery procedures. The team is dedicated to providing high-quality patient care through clinical expertise and collaborative teamwork.

Contract Details

• Length of Contract: 26 weeks (preferred longer contracts of 26-51 weeks available)
• Shifts: 12 Hour Shifts, with 36 hours guaranteed per week
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Rotation: Ability to request 1 holiday off, with 2 federal holidays/year, 1 spring, and 2 winter non-essential holidays

Compliance Requirements

• Certifications: AHA BLS required at time of submission
• Licensure: Kansas or Multistate license; no disciplinary actions allowed
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical experience; progressive care/step down experience is a bonus
• Charting System: Epic (test out option available)

• Staffing Ratios: 1:6
• Scrub Color: Navy
• Jewelry and Body Adornment Policy: Allowed; visible tattoos permitted as long as they are not offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate for a professional setting. Facial and ear piercings are acceptable if they do not interfere with job duties and maintain a professional appearance.
• Vaccination Requirements: Immunity status for Hep B, MMR, Varicella (via titer or proof of vaccination series), TDaP vaccine, Influenza vaccine or exemption request during flu season, TB documentation.
