Position Overview

Join our team as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Med/Surg Neuro unit, where you will provide compassionate care to patients with medical and surgical needs, along with a significant history of behavioral health disorders. This unit specializes in the care of stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and other neurological patients.

Contract Details

  • Length: 26 weeks preferred, with consideration for longer contracts.
  • Orientation Dates: October 5, 2026; October 19, 2026; November 2, 2026; November 16, 2026; November 30, 2026.
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, with 36 hours guaranteed per week.
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required.
  • Floating Requirements: May be required to float to other post-surgical or medical/surgical inpatient floors.

Holiday Request Policy

Healthcare providers may request one holiday off, with additional allowances for federal and non-essential holidays.

Qualifications

  • Education: ADN or BSN is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care medical/surgical experience.
  • Licensure: Must have a KS or multistate license with no hits allowed.
  • Certifications: AHA BLS required at the time of submission. CPI and NIHSS certifications are a bonus.

Unit Information

The Med/Surg Neuro unit consists of 31 beds and provides care for:

  • Acute and subacute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients
  • Transient ischemic attacks
  • Medically unstable psychiatric illnesses
  • Individuals undergoing alcohol detox
  • General medical concerns

Charting System

Experience with Epic is preferred; a test-out option is available.

Staffing Ratios

The unit maintains a staffing ratio of 1:6, ensuring quality care for all patients.

Dress Code and Appearance

Professional appearance is required. Visible tattoos are permitted, as well as acceptable piercings that do not interfere with job duties.

Vaccination Requirements

  • Proof of immunity status for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella, either through titer results or vaccination completion.
  • TDaP vaccine documentation.
  • Influenza vaccine or an exemption request during flu season.
  • Documentation of TB status.
