Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Cardiac Step Down position requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and a passed dysrhythmia exam.

Details

  • Work in a high-acuity, cardiac-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
  • High patient acuity with frequent admissions/discharges and significant procedural volume
  • Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right and left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • AM shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 3x12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required in hand
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt, with no tech assistance or remediation
  • Experience required with cardiac drips including insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
  • Must rate a "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care for high-acuity cardiac step-down patients
  • Must be comfortable managing frequent admissions, discharges, and high procedural volume
  • Radius rule of 50 miles applies; local candidates are not eligible
  • Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not falling on or near a holiday, or 3 days if it does, with only one holiday request allowed
