Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Step Down/PCU position requiring strong cardiac telemetry skills and 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience.

Details

• High-acuity, cardiac-focused PCU Step Down unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
• AM shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 3x12s (36 hours/week)
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic EMR
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
• Common procedures include right and left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles

Requirements

• Active RN license (Georgia or Compact) currently in hand
• Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt with no tech assistance or remediation
• Experience required with cardiac drips including insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin
• Chest tube experience required
• Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
• Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity cardiac step-down nursing care with frequent admissions, discharges, and significant procedural volume
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this position
• Former Emory or Houston Methodist staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
• RTO requests not falling on or near a holiday are limited to a maximum of 5 days; requests on or near a holiday are limited to a maximum of 3 days, with only one holiday request allowed
