Chill Department - Assistant Manager
Overview:
Assist the Department Manager in operation of the department to meet objectives for sales, margin, and customer service. Lead and support staff in performance of daily tasks.
Status:
$25/hour, Non-Exempt
Hourly, flexible schedule including nights and weekends
Supervisor:
Chill Department Manager
Job Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary
- Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products
- Help customers place Special Orders
Personnel:
- Assist in training of member workers and staff as required
- Assist manager in scheduling and supervision of member workers
- Identify and resolve work performance problems
- Report personnel concerns to Chill Manager as necessary
- Supervise and direct staff and member workers in work responsibilities
- Set and maintain work priorities for department tasks
- Schedule staff hours as needed
Merchandising/Stocking:
- Assist Chill Manager with department merchandising
- Ensure that shelves are well stocked, organized and fronted
- Ensure that products, prices and shelf tags correspond correctly
- Maintain organization of back stock
- Organize shelf stocking work flow and cart placement to minimize disruptions to shoppers
- Participate in periodic price maintenance
- Prepare for and participate in periodic inventory
- Participate in periodic end cap/display changeovers
Receiving:
- In absence of Receiver, check deliveries to verify piece count and notify purchaser of discrepancies
- Check for damage and unacceptable quality, notify purchaser of discrepancies
- Help with unloading deliveries as needed
- Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments noted on invoice and route invoice to buyer
- Rotate overstock into storage
Department Maintenance:
- Ensure that shelves, displays, coolers, bins, aisles and storage areas are maintained in clean, orderly condition
- Remove cardboard and trash promptly
- Sweep and mop floor when needed
- Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures when working in those areas
- Report equipment malfunctions/problems to appropriate parties as per departmental procedures
- Participate in inventory as assigned
Administrative
- Participate in inventory as assigned
Safety:
- Handle all equipment safely.
- Consistently practice (and model for others) safe and proper lifting procedures
- Be mindful of potential hazards to customers and employees. Correct hazards as they occur
- Use all equipment (including box cutters, ladders, and stepstools) in accordance with department safely procedures
Additional:
- Attend Department and store meetings
- Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of grocery retail experience
- Up to date knowledge of trends in natural foods industry
- Ability to safely and consistently lift up to 50 lbs. throughout a shift
- Ability to work shifts with constant standing throughout work day and frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching
- Ability to work in cold areas (coolers, freezers) for extended periods
- High levels of organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands
- Experience serving the public
- Basic arithmetic skills
- Consistent attention to details
- Familiarity with basic office computer functions including spreadsheets, email, internet
- Experience with computer Point-of-Sale systems a plus
