The routine responsibilities of the Transportation Communications Specialist position include, but are not limited to: + Monitor the ATMS and be abreast of district-wide traffic incidents, road closures, and construction reports + Interact with the media, Georgia DOT office of strategic communications as well as stakeholders to provide help with details of incidents, and, where appropriate, provide video feeds from the ATMS + Provide updates and post content to 511 Georgia’s social media outlets through Facebook, Twitter, and potentially other social media platforms + Provide incident coverage via 511 Georgia’s social media channels during the evening rush hour + Monitor major traffic incidents after-hours as part of a rotational on-call schedule + Develop content for multiple platforms that include promotional materials, website copy articles, as well as composing Twitter posts, Facebook, and other social media platform postings + Carry out strategic communication campaigns and initiatives in alignment with Georgia DOT communications efforts + Support district and statewide outreach efforts such as presenting and/or attending events and meetings to build awareness, make connections, and project the Georgia DOT TMC, 511 Georgia, and its programs in a positive light + Interact with Georgia DOT District Communications Officers to build working relationships and increase the benefits of coordinating the work of incident management and traffic operations with the TMC in Atlanta + Travel to Georgia DOT districts across the state to support TMC program outreach efforts such as stakeholder meetings and community events + Stay abreast of changes in media platforms and implement them in a way that will benefit the Department + Facilitate conversations and provide information + Gather information and analyze the current report and previous reports that indicate whether to stay on the same track or take a different route to best serve Georgia DOT and consumers’ needs + Assist and support Georgia DOT’s office of strategic communications as needed + Maintain a log of position activities + Support emergency operations such as severe weather events + Support special events that generate high concentrated traffic such as, but not limited to, mobile operations at sporting events, political rallies, religious gatherings, etc. The Communications Specialist will work alongside the TMC Digital Media Specialist, TMC Communications Specialist, and TMC Manager of Communications & Outreach to develop and update content for multiple media platforms; monitor the Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) to be aware of incidents and events on Department roadways and facilitate outreach programs; provide incident coverage during the evening rush hour and interact with partners and the public on Transportation Management (TM) topics.
