Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Telemetry unit, focusing on the care of patients who are held in the emergency department awaiting placement on a unit. The ideal candidate should have strong cardiac telemetry experience.

Shift Notes

This position operates on a night shift with self-scheduling capabilities, requiring four weekend shifts every four weeks, and participation in holiday rotation with permanent staff. Travelers may also float to other units as necessary.

Unit Information

• Bed Capacity: 60 ED Beds at one location, 31 ED Beds at another
• Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1 to 4
• Common Conditions Treated: Patients in need of telemetry monitoring, primarily medical-surgical and telemetry patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting cardiac telemetry strips.
• Titrate medications such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone per physician orders.
• Assist with emergency department tasks, including taking vital signs, starting IVs, and administering medications.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess strong experience in cardiac telemetry nursing with the ability to adjust and manage cardiac drips as required. A passing score on a dysrhythmia exam and a PASS/FAIL simulation lab on the first day of orientation are prerequisites. Failure to pass these assessments will result in ineligibility for 6 months.

Additional Notes

Nurses will care for patients in the emergency department who require telemetry monitoring while awaiting unit placement. The position requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to patient care in a dynamic environment.
