Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Telemetry Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in a telemetry unit. This position requires strong cardiac tele experience, with a focus on managing and monitoring patients awaiting placement. The nurse will be expected to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while ensuring high-quality care.

Shift and Scheduling

• Shift: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 4 major holidays
• Ability to self-schedule; scheduling may change as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips; no monitor technician available on the unit.
• Administer medication and manage titratable cardiac drips per physician’s orders.
• Provide care for ED holds, primarily for patients awaiting bed placement in the hospital.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure effective patient management and transition.
• Assist with care for ED patients, including vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration (not acting as primary RN for ED patient assignments).
• Float to med/surg, tele, overflow units, or other facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience, within the past 6 months.
• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Certification, NIHSS (AHA or APEX).
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam upon offer acceptance.
• Successful completion of a PASS/FAIL SIM LAB on day one of orientation.
• Strong background in cardiac telemetry care and understanding of common cardiac drips.

Additional Information

• No vents available; respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP.
• Dress Code: Navy scrubs.
• Unit/Department Orientation: 2 shifts of orientation to Med/Surg/Tele.
• Patient Ratios: 1 to 4.
