Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our team. This position involves providing high-quality care to patients in the Telemetry unit, requiring strong monitoring and assessment skills.

Schedule and Hours

• Shift: Days
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Participate in holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Floating Requirement: May float to Med/Surg, Telemetry, Overflow units, and other EDs as needed

Unit Information

This position is within a Telemetry unit, specifically for ED Holds. The unit consists of a total of 91 beds and provides specialized care for patients awaiting placement. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.

Required Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a Telemetry nursing role
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required
• Strong cardiac telemetry background, with experience in managing and titrating cardiac drips per physician orders
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips; there are no monitor techs available, so this is a key responsibility

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients in a telemetry setting, primarily focused on ED holds waiting for a bed
• Titrate drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone as per protocols
• Assist with vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration for patients in the ED as needed
• Participate in unit orientation and training for Med/Surg/Telemetry

Orientation and Training

Comprehensive training will include a PASS/FAIL SIM LAB on the first day of orientation, and a dysrhythmia exam must be successfully completed prior to start. Should candidates fail either assessment, they will be placed on a Do Not Utilize (DNU) list for a period of 6 months.

The required scrub color is Navy.

Additional Notes

Nurses will be caring for patients transitioning from the emergency department and are expected to display professional conduct and effective communication skills while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
