Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit role requiring cardiac drip proficiency, EPIC experience, and prior travel nursing experience.
Details
- Hospital-based PCU/Tele setting with multiple units: PCU (36 beds), Medical (36 beds), Overflow (11 beds), Observation (15 beds), and Surgical (42 beds)
- Patient population includes stroke rule-outs, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical patients, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, numbness, fever, sepsis, and respiratory failure
- Staffing ratios: 1:4 for PCU, Overflow, and Observation; 1:5 for Medical and Surgical units, occasionally stretching to 1:6
- Patient care techs/nurse aides present at ratios of 1:8-11 depending on unit; some units have secretaries
- RT equipment used includes CPAP and high flow oxygen
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips and perform EKGs, notifying MD of changes; off-site monitoring support available
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- Required to float to all PCU/Tele units within the facility, including PCU, Observation, Overflow, Medical, and Surgical floors, with possible rare floats to ICU or ER
- Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required within a 6-week period
- No on-call requirements
- Scheduling coordinated by administrative staff to meet unit needs
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license
- AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- 1-2 years of experience required with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
- Experience with cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to read/interpret telemetry strips and pass an ECG exam
- Required to titrate drips
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple PCU/Tele units based on daily facility needs
- Navy scrubs required
- Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday; holiday team will work if there is a need
- Opportunity for overtime available
- Candidates must be flexible to work across different units each shift
