Description

American Traveler is seeking a Telemetry/PCU RN with cardiac drip experience and Epic proficiency for a hospital position requiring floating across multiple units.

Details

  • PCU/Telemetry unit within a hospital setting, floating required to all PCU/Tele units including Medical, Surgical, Overflow, and Observation floors
  • Unit sizes include PCU (36 beds), Medical (36 beds), Overflow (11 beds), Observation (15 beds), and Surgical (42 beds)
  • Patient ratios are 1:4 for PCU, Overflow, and Observation and 1:5 (rarely 1:6) for Medical and Surgical
  • Common diagnoses include stroke rule-out, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical care, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, sepsis, and respiratory failure
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are present with ratios of 1:8-11 depending on unit, some units have secretaries
  • RT equipment on unit includes CPAP and high flow oxygen
  • Off-site monitoring used for telemetry, RNs must read and interpret their own strips
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a
  • Weekend requirement of minimum 4 shifts in a 6-week period
  • No on-call requirements
  • Possible floating to ICU for lower acuity holds or ER to take boarders
  • Overtime opportunities may be available

Requirements

  • Active VA or Compact RN license
  • Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 1-2 years of RN experience with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
  • Experience with cardizem, amio, and heparin drips required
  • Must be able to titrate drips
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Must be able to read/interpret cardiac strips and pass an ECG exam

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include titrating cardiac drips, performing neuro assessments, and interpreting telemetry strips
  • RNs must be able to identify changes in patient status and communicate with physicians promptly
  • Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Clinicians must be flexible to work across multiple assigned units each shift
