Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit position requiring cardiac drip proficiency and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Hospital-based PCU/Telemetry unit encompassing PCU, Medical Overflow, Observation, and Surgical areas
  • Patient population includes stroke rule-out, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, and sepsis cases
  • Patient ratios are 1:4 for PCU, Overflow, and Observation, and 1:5 (rarely 1:6) for Medical and Surgical units
  • Patient care techs available at ratios of 1:8-11 depending on unit
  • RT equipment on unit includes CPAP and high flow oxygen
  • Off-site tele monitoring with RNs required to read and interpret their own strips
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
  • Required to float to all PCU/Tele units within the hospital, including PCU, Observation, Overflow, Medical, and Surgical floors, with possible rare floats to ICU or ER
  • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required within a 6-week period
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required
  • Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 1-2 years of experience required with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
  • Experience with cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips required, including drip titration
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips and pass an ECG exam

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple telemetry and progressive care unit settings based on hospital needs
  • Respond to respiratory changes and escalate to physicians as needed
  • Communicate strip changes and patient status updates to the care team
  • Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Clock in by 6:53 AM and clock out by 7:23 AM for shift adherence
