Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit position requiring cardiac drip proficiency and floating across multiple units.

Details

  • PCU/Telemetry unit within a hospital setting covering PCU, Overflow, Observation, Medical, and Surgical floors
  • Patient population includes stroke rule-out, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, numbness, fever, sepsis, and respiratory failure
  • Patient ratios of 1:4 on PCU, Overflow, and Observation; 1:5 (occasionally 1:6) on Medical and Surgical units
  • Required to float between PCU, Observation, Overflow, Medical, and Surgical floors, with possible rare floats to ICU or ER for lower acuity holds/boarders
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • RT equipment on unit includes CPAP and high flow oxygen delivery
  • Nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry strips, with off-site monitoring support
  • Night shift schedule (7p-7a), clocking in by 0653 and out by 0723
  • Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required in a 6-week period
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license
  • Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • 1-2 years of RN experience required with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
  • Experience titrating cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Must be able to read/interpret telemetry strips and pass an ECG exam

Additional Information

  • Responsible for titrating cardiac drips and responding to changes in patient condition, including notifying MD as needed
  • Unit staffed with patient care techs at ratios of 1:8-11 depending on unit, with some units having secretaries
  • Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday, with holiday team covering as needed
  • Opportunity for overtime available
  • Scheduling coordinated by administrative staff, with travelers expected to remain flexible to work where needed
