Description

American Traveler is hiring a Step Down/PCU RN with strong cardiac experience for a high-acuity heart and vascular unit requiring EPIC proficiency and successful completion of a dysrhythmia exam.

• Work in a high-acuity, cardiac-focused Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Step Down setting
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
• Frequent admissions, discharges, and significant procedural volume
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
• Common procedures include right and left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• Requires use of EPIC EMR
• Shift is 12-hour night shifts (NOC), 3x12s for 36 hrs/week
• No on-call responsibilities
• May float to similar cardiac/PCU units but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no tech assistance or remediation)
• Experience required with cardiac drips including insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin
• Chest tube experience required
• Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
• Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)

Additional Information

• Provide bedside nursing care for high-acuity cardiac and vascular patients on a moderate care unit
• Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
• RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not on or near a holiday, or 3 days if on or near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
