Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a high-acuity cardiac Step Down unit requiring strong telemetry interpretation skills and at least 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience.

  • Cardiac-focused PCU/Step Down unit in a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
  • Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 with high patient acuity and frequent admissions/discharges
  • No ventilator patients on this unit
  • AM shift, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 3x12-hour shifts per week, 36 hours weekly
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to the Cardiac Monitor Tech role
  • EPIC EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Georgia or Compact) in hand
  • Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience required
  • Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt with no tech assistance
  • Experience required with cardiac drips including insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin
  • Chest tube experience required
  • Must rate a "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
  • Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed
  • Full SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Deliver high-acuity cardiac nursing care with significant procedural volume
  • Training available for candidates without heart transplant or LVAD experience
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
  • Strict RTO policy: max 5 days off if not near a holiday, max 3 days if near a holiday, with only 1 holiday request allowed
  • Candidates may only be submitted to one position at a time
