Description

American Traveler is hiring a Step Down RN for a high-acuity cardiac PCU with strong telemetry interpretation skills and recent cardiac experience required.

Details

• Step Down / PCU unit at a hospital with a high-acuity, cardiac-focused patient population
• Night shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts (36 hrs/week)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4 to 1:5
• No on-call responsibilities
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• Frequent admissions, discharges, and significant procedural volume
• Common patient populations include heart failure, A-Fib, A-Flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, congenital heart disease, and heart transplant/LVAD patients
• Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
• Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience within the past 3 years
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt (no remediation)
• Required experience with cardiac drips including insulin, Milrinone, Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, and Nitroglycerin
• Chest tube experience required
• Must rate a 4 on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
• Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred (training available if needed)
• Epic EMR experience required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to high-acuity cardiac and step-down patients, including rhythm monitoring and management of cardiac drips
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
• Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
• RTO is limited to a maximum of 5 days if not on/near a holiday, or 3 days if on/near a holiday, with only one holiday request allowed
• Holiday RTO requests must be spread out rather than consecutive
