Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring an Ohio or compact RN license and PCU experience treating high-acuity oncology patients.

Details

• Medical Oncology PCU unit with progressive care beds and a small amount of med-surg patients
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients may be present but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
• Staffing ratios are approximately 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30) with possible day/night rotation reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic charting system experience required

Requirements

• Active Ohio or compact RN license required at time of submission
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months, with at least 1 year of PCU experience
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, PCA management, cardiac drip management, chest tube care, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula use, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; prior travel experience is not required
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract, either by traveling to an in-state location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet
• Former employees are eligible for a new travel assignment after being away from the facility for at least 6 months
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel assignments at this location
• RTO must be requested and built into the contract at time of submission
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
