Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Tele RN for a night shift float pool role at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all inpatient Med Surg/Telemetry units
  • Units range from 20-36 beds each
  • Patient ratios are RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, and CNA up to 1:14
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
  • Required to float to all Med/Tele units in the facility as needed
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding if not certified
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg-Tele RN experience required
  • Certification in Med Surg is a plus
  • Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use required
  • Proficiency in cardiac drips required, including insulin drips, heparin drips, and rate-titrated drips
  • 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Position located within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
  • CNA support available for vitals, glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, and patient mobility assistance
  • Charge nurse present on all shifts
  • Unit secretary coverage 7A-11P, with house-wide call secretary coverage 11P-7A
  • PICC team available; not a dedicated IV team
  • Resource team and discharge nurses float to all units as needed
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and Intensivist support available
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs, Ceil Blue for LPNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid parking deck options
  • Unit culture described as busy and team-oriented
  • Travelers required to work 75% of designated holidays
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate for GA facilities
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
