Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele experience.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Telemetry unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases, post-op surgical patients, and med-surg comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, LPN ratio of 1:4-6, with 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretary (7a-11p, house-wide call secretary 11p-7a), charge nurse (may carry patients), resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
  • Dedicated PICC team available, though not a general IV team; lab draws typically from CVLs
  • Central Telemetry Unit for cardiac monitoring
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Dynamap portable vital signs monitors, bladder scanners, and PCA pumps
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7p-7a), 36 hours per week, on a 6-week rotating schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the facility

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA state or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Medical-Surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma hospital experience preferred
  • Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander use, insulin and heparin drip management, central line management, wound care, cardiac monitoring/telemetry interpretation, and discharge planning with a focus on renal and fluid management
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive med-surg and telemetry nursing care including IV insertion, wound care, post-op monitoring, and care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Facilitate discharge planning and patient education, particularly related to renal and fluid management
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • Scrub color required: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid deck options also available
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
