Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on night shift at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of relevant experience and an active GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work on a 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Care for patients with orthopedic and trauma injuries, post-op surgical needs, and chronic disease comorbidities such as diabetes, CHF, and hypertension
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • Central telemetry monitoring unit supports cardiac monitoring and interpretation
  • Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts within the 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult Med-Surg/Telemetry units in the facility

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS required; BCR/EKG competency exam required as part of compliance; ACLS preferred
  • Medical-surgical or nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander use, insulin and heparin drip management, and central line care
  • Experience with wound care, post-op monitoring, and telemetry interpretation
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists, all available 24/7
  • Provide discharge planning and patient education, particularly related to renal and fluid management
  • Unit supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and resource/discharge nurses who float across units
  • Facility has a dedicated PICC team; phlebotomy is primarily lab-collect
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility-wide modules and 2 days of departmental training
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • RN scrub color is navy
  • Free parking available on campus
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Returning employees must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after a permanent position
  • No radius rule applies for GA facilities; local candidates receive the same rate as travelers
