Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact license.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes orthopedic and trauma cases, post-op surgeries, and chronic disease management (diabetes, CHF, hypertension, electrolyte imbalances)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in house
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Unit equipped with central telemetry monitoring, glucometers, bladder scanners, PCA pumps, and external fixators

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS required; BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam required as part of compliance
  • ACLS preferred
  • Medical-surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip titration, central line management, and wound care
  • Strong clinical assessment skills appropriate for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within one year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, IV insertion, and post-op monitoring
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists, all available 24/7
  • Discharge planning and patient education, particularly related to renal and fluid management
  • Unit supported by CNAs, resource/discharge nurses, and a dedicated PICC team
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Unit culture described as busy with a strong team-based approach
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local GA candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rule
  • Candidates must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
