Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact license.

Details

  • Float pool position within inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • 637-bed facility with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Med/Surg units range from 20-36 beds each
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic disease, common med-surg comorbidities, cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA up to 1:14
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a on a 6-week rotating schedule
  • 36 standard hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units as part of float pool role
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
  • Support includes 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage, PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, and central telemetry monitoring

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS preferred; must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding if not already certified
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, and strong assessment and time management abilities
  • Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring/interpretation, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (excluding sheath pulls)
  • Experience titrating drips required: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education
  • Charge nurses may or may not carry a patient assignment
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including one shift each for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking as an alternative
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius rule applies for local GA candidates; local candidates receive the same pay rate as travelers
  • Returning employees must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
