Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Cares for post/pre cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses including CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 with CNA support of 2-3 per shift
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all Med/Surg Telemetry units in-house
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
  • Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova glucose stat strips, and PCA pain management pumps

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) certification required, including EKG rhythm exam during onboarding
  • ACLS certification preferred but not required
  • Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma hospital setting required
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, and IV/central line care
  • Experience with wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide care coordination with interdisciplinary teams and support discharge planning with emphasis on renal and fluid management education
  • Unit is supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a resource/discharge nurse team, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Facility uses a dedicated PICC team; lab collection typically performed by nursing staff
  • Central Telemetry Unit monitors patient telemetry remotely
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs, Ceil Blue for LPNs
  • Free campus parking available, with paid deck parking also an option
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as traveling candidates
  • Previous employees must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year following a permanent position
