Position Overview

Stormont Vail Health is seeking experienced Registered Nurses – Med/Surg Trauma to join the Spine Center Post-Surgical unit. This 27-bed unit provides care for patients recovering from spinal surgery, neurosurgical procedures, orthopedic injuries and surgeries, and a wide range of trauma-related conditions.

Patient Population

The unit cares for patients with:

  • Post-operative spinal surgery, including spinal stenosis and compression fractures
  • Neurosurgical conditions, including subdural hematomas, craniotomies, and hemorrhagic strokes
  • Orthopedic injuries and surgical procedures
  • Trauma related to motor vehicle accidents, falls, crush injuries, and gunshot wounds
  • Traumatic brain injuries

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant RN experience
  • ADN or BSN
  • Active Kansas RN license or Multistate/Compact RN license
  • AHA BLS required at time of submission
  • No license hits permitted
  • Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Epic experience preferred; test-out option available

Additional Assignment Details

  • Patient ratio: 1:6
  • Floating: Required to other post-surgical and inpatient Med/Surg floors
  • Call: None
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Holiday: 2 federal holidays/year; 1 spring and 2 winter non-essential holidays
  • Holiday RTO: HCP may request 1 holiday off
  • RTO: Up to 10 days for contracts 26 weeks or longer; up to 5 days for contracts shorter than 26 weeks
  • Local travelers: Accepted at the same rate; no radius restriction
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly, with approximately 2–3 travelers per unit per orientation class
  • Travelers should remain flexible regarding their assigned orientation date based on class size
