Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Previous charge experience Description: The Registered Nurse will primarily have step-down unit assignments. The average patient ratio is 1:3 during the day. The nurse may occasionally cover the Intensive Care Unit as needed. Floating to other units is possible. Call requirements may apply. The RN should have experience with arterial line management and care of ventilated patients. The nurse will be responsible for central line care and management, as well as continuous IV sedation. Interpretation of arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias is necessary. Isolation precautions and personal protective equipment protocols must be followed. Management of dysrhythmias and care of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure is expected. A collaborative interdisciplinary support system is in place. Patient diagnoses will include acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver and renal failure, post-cardiac arrest, and GI bleed. The Intensive Care Unit operates under a 1:1 or 2:1 patient ratio, unless extenuating circumstances arise. The step-down unit maintains a 3:1 patient ratio. Support staff includes patient care assistants, with a designated charge RN for the unit. This position requires the ability to work in a high-acuity environment. Travel experience is an asset, but first-time travelers are welcome to apply.
