Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 2+ years of neuro-focused critical care experience and NIHSS certification.

Details

  • Neuro Intensive Care Unit setting within a hospital
  • 36 hours per week with Day/Night rotation on 3x12-hour shifts (7:00-19:00 or 19:30-7:30)
  • Every other weekend required, with weekend shifts defined as Friday and Saturday nights
  • Shift rotation schedule updates approximately every 4 weeks based on unit needs
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA certifications only)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with strong neuro-focused background preferred
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills required: IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Experience with arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and blood product administration
  • Experience managing ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, and high flow nasal cannula
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac/vasoactive drips
  • Experience with CVA/acute stroke management, EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery care, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care
  • Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation/management and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing services to neurologically complex ICU patients, including stroke, craniotomy, and traumatic brain injury cases
  • Must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing contract, either by traveling to an in-state fingerprinting location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible for travel assignments
  • First-time travelers will be considered but should be prepared for the intensive credentialing and fingerprinting process
